The art of walking
Susanne Wolbers‘ hikes through nature inspire her jewellery
pieces. These journeys are an integral part of her life
when she feels exhilarated by the liberation from social
restraints. The silence and the infinite variety of visual
impressions allow her the opportunity to observe and
discover.
The artist is concerned with fundamental questions such as
‘How far are we a product of our education, cultural
environment and society? How far are we influenced by
opinions in the media and public discourse?’
Her answers and experiences offer a unique yet respectful
way with unusual materials, resulting in astonishing new
definitions of beauty.
The artist uses real fur and fungus in her work to generate
a creative exchange between the onlooker and the pieces
about preconceived societal notions of such materials.
„It is contradictory to not make use of old furs anymore
while at the same time buying synthetic clothes every other
year thus creating ever more waste seems like certain
routines remain unquestioned in our society.“
(Susanne Wolbers)
Her jewellery is both attention grabbing and fascinating
with the power to shake, shock and stimulate the onlooker’s
own reflection.
